The LORD Is His Name

I am on my 3rd scripture memorization with a goal to hide 2 scriptures every month for the year. This one is from the prophet Jeremiah and reads as follows:

“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:2-3

It’s been a great adventure memorizing scripture for 2009. The accountability is helping me to stay on track. I don’t get to pick which scriptures to hide in my heart – they seem to resonate with me during my Bible study. And Jeremiah 33:2-3 is no exception.

I first set out to memorize verse 3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do know” and in reading the entire portion, I quickly realized I had to add verse 2 “This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name”. As I read it over and over – this part stuck: The Lord is his name. I kept pondering over the emphasis of the Lord is his name. I kind of know that but wonder why the Lord wanted His people to know very well that the Lord is his name.

In going over my scripture, I will say something along the line: Myriam call to the Lord and He will answer you but remember the Lord is his name. In the NASB version, it reads “the LORD is his name”. The LORD is the name God first reveals Himself to Moses when He sent him to see Pharaoh. It is God’s covenant Keeping name “Jehovah”. The LORD is his name – in Exodus, He said ‘This is My name forever, and this is My memorial name to all generations”. He is the “I AM WHO I AM”, the Alpha and the Omega, the same yesterday, today, and forever.

When we need assurance, the LORD is there and He will keep His promises because He cannot change. He is the compassionate God, the gracious One who abounds in loving-kindness and truth, and slow to anger.

Trust in His name because the LORD is his name. This is your Jehovah!

Praise the LORD! The LORD is His name and there is none other. No one else above or below can carry HIS Name or touch His glory. I enjoyed this Myriam and thank you for visiting over at one of my blogs. God bless and keep you as you study His word and have it written upon your heart.I have often said, when hell rises up against someone you may not have time to get your Bible out! We have got to have the Word inscribed upon our hearts so that we can walk in relationship with the Lord, be an effective witness to others in His Name and also stand strong in the faith against the enemy.Today, so many churches gloss over the Word. Reading one verse and then preaching for an hour with more opinion than what the Word says. Many places have the Word on the Screens so people are not even encouraged to bring or read from their Bibles. Call me old school but I was raised to open the Word of God, read it, meditate on it and then pray to walk it out. In these times we need to be stronger in the things of GOD and in our love for GOD. Ok, I’ve left a book rather than my intention which was a little encouragement.God bless you and I look forward to visiting again.

  6. I’m with Lisa, churches are more on their interpretations and I don’t get the big screen version. I like to hear, open up your bibles and turn to…I’m learning scriptures as well. I used Psalm 27:1 to get me through the past two weeks. Now I’m working in Exodus 14:13.A church member gave me The King James Study Guide as a gift last night and it was engraved with my name. It brought tears to my eyes and I hugged her until she said ouch!Love you!Have a great weekend. You know for Police officers our schedules are weird, so it’s actaully Friday for me (smile)

It is great to memorize scriptures and hide in your heart. Because there are going to be times when in your face in a situation when there’s just not enough time to grab a bible. Or, you may not be someplace where a bible is not available. Keep doing what you’re doing.Blessings to you!!
